MY SCHOOL
I work in a vocational school in the town of Vibo Valentia in the south west of Italy. Vocational schools are quite common in Italy and unfortunately they usually cater for students that are not so keen on studying. That's why teaching there is a little bit tough. In my school there are four kinds of five year courses: Tourism, Business, Graphics and Social Services.I have classes both in the Business and Social Services courses.
Students start this school at the age of 14 and finish(if they don't fail) when they are 18 with the final exam. After this exam they can either go to university or find a job.
The Social Course prepares students to work in social fields such as: nurseries, old people's rest homes, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, holiday villages, communities and so on.
The Business course allows them to work in both the state and private offices with various tasks.
The Graphics course is the most creative one as it trains you to work in the field of advertising on different media.
Finally, the Tourism course is particularly addressed to those who want to find a job in hotels, tourist information offices, travel agency, museums and so on.
Well, as you can see, those courses are very interesting but job opportunities are very few and that's why most of my students are not enough motivated and rather down -hearted.

  1. Hi Stefania! I must say your first post is really interesting since you give a clear picture of your school. I believe this is really important because it doesn't matter where we are from but teachers all around the globe face the same challenges at work. In my country, the situation is quite similar in terms of low motivation and not enough job opportunities for young people... Luckily students have enthusiastic teachers like you around... :)
